Description

Can Oakland Police PLEASE do something about the rampant double-parking in the bike lanes that happens along all of Franklin and Webster Streets every day, from 21st Street all the way south to 14th Street (and beyond, not in a bike lane).

This photo just south of Franklin and 17th shows three cars all parked in the bike lane next to each other (with a 4th that pulled away as soon as I took out my camera). The USPS truck right behind them all is trying to do the right thing by stopping in one of the three other travel lanes, instead of the single bike lane. Alas, this effort to be thoughtful is stymied by all of the other double parkers ahead of them, causing cyclists to have to move two lanes over in order to pass this mess.

I know that the only thing that will realistically keep drivers out of the bike lane are physically-separated facilities, but until then can OPD at least ticket the heck out of the people who park illegally on every block here, every day? It's getting to the point where there are so many double parkers that I spend more time outside of the bike lane and in it.
