I called TPD 3x last Friday because of the obvious breaking of the NOISE ORDINANCE in the city. I won't repeat what I was told. These YAHOOS (meaning the bike riders) do not have ANY consideration for others. We have a 92 yo living on my block who can not find any peace because of these incosiderate batards and their bikes. They are destroying both PUBLIC and PRIVATE land. Someone actually cut trees down on public land to create a trail for atv's by the Piscawenkill creek. The only way these Jackwads will be stopped is when one of them is seriously injured or DIES because of their lack of care. Maybe then, TPD will do the job.

In reality they probably arent breaking any laws. They're just having fun riding their ATVs where they can. It's not like there are tons of trails to ride that are away from homes.

If the ATVs aren't registered they'd be breaking a law that TPD could actually enforce... if the ATVs stop. TPD doesn't have any ATVs so they can't go chase these people.

Breaking the noise ordinance is very hard to prove. The police have to come out with a decible meter and take readings from a certain distance away from the noise.

I complained about the constant 18 wheelers driving down Oakwood Ave using their incredibly loud "jake brakes". If you've heard these trucks going down a hill using jake brakes you know it sounds like a helicopter flying at 10 feet off the ground... much much louder than any ATV could ever be.

Guess what?! TPD came out, set up for 4 hours with their decible meter and didn't find one single truck breaking the noise ordinance. Honestly, I don't know how that happened. It was almost like the trucking companies were tipped off beforehand or they saw the police standing there on the sidewalk and just didn't use their jake brakes.

I ended up looking like just another whiny citizen who was complaining about nothing.

If you think a few atvs are loud, come live on Oakwood Ave. and listen to these damned 18 wheelers 24/7/365 a year.

ATV's are illegal on any streets, roads, walkpaths. They are not licensed vehicals with licensed drivers and are not held to inspections by NYS, they are not the same as cars and trucks. They are load and a nusience as well as a danger to pedestrians, children because they are used for speed and reckless play and should only be allowed on desiginated trails for many safety reasons including that of the drivers. That is one reason you see people, children and adults killed and injured in the news often because they are not on desiginated trails and their are virtually no rules unless a responsible parent or adult is monitoring. People have the right to live peacefully as well in their neighborhoods and not be victimized by these disrespectful individuals.

To the lady that posted the "Piscawenkill creek", where is this located? Never heard of it.

The Piscawenkill is located in North Central and served as Troy's original source of potable water. It flows from Wright Lake in Frear Park between MLK apartments and Sunnyside under Glen Avenue and into the Hudson River. They were up there riding again yesterday - a dirt bike not an ATV. The yahoo drove the thing down Ninth Street south towards Hoosick. Number 598 on the front of the bike, no helmet, no respect. Yes, riding it on the street and get this - drove right past a police car who did NOTHING.

I see and hear those 2 stroke motorcross dirtbikes riding up and down 9th and 10th between middleburgh and hoosick ALL THE TIME. I don't mind the noise but I do mind that these cycles are not supposed to be on the public road ways at all.

It's always the blacks. I think that's why the cops don't do anything. They give blacks passes on things that they would pull a white person over for. The blacks are getting used to this too. Who else who ride a completely illegal (and probably stolen) dirtbike on a public street right by a police car and not even worry about it?

I would bet that these all motorcycles and ATVs that they are riding are stolen.

The police should really start pulling these dumba$$es over and check registrations, insurance and proof of ownership. Yes, any atv or dirtbike has to be register and insured even if it is only used on your own property.

Even if the police don't think they can catch these dirtbikes, they should at least chase them so they know that the police aren't looking the other way.

Kevin is typical of what is wrong with society. Doesn't care about anyone except himself. Sounds like an area with some bad people to put it nicely. Hopefully law enforcement will keep the peace and put an end to the nonsense.

In response to Ninth Street, no it isn't always "the blacks". The rider I wrote about was a white male mid-20's with tats on his arms & neck. As for riding past the cop, the kid on the dirtbike never saw him as he didn't look before he crossed Ingalls from Sunnyside onto Ninth. In hindsight, the officer was right in not pursuing him - this time. At least now TPD knows who they are looking for. They have already confiscated one dirtbike and are looking for the other two.

Steven: You make a valid point. Somewhere along the line we began to teach people that it's all about "me". Well, it's not. What YOU do may AFFECT me and therefore when YOU do something that violates MY space, YOU are violating MY rights.
