Description
Dangerous situation for pedestrians in the cross walk, on the south side of the South 1st and Cesar Chavez intersection, especially those going west. Pedestrians going west are emerging into the cross walk from the wooded Maragaret Hoffman Oak Park, and many drivers are not aware of them.
The connection of the pedestrian bridge to the trail is currently closed on the opposite side of the lake, causing runners and bikers to use the east part of the pedestrian bridge, and then to cross S. First to get back on the trail when returning.
Much of the Traffic turning south on South First are not honoring the pedestrian cross walk during rush hour in their haste to get through the light.
Even worse, some are making an illegal right turn from the second lane at a high rate of speed, and not even considering the pedestrians cross walk.
You may need large lit signs as you have elsewhere near the trail telling drivers to stop for pedestrians in the cross walk.
You might need to clearly warn that a left turn from the second lane is illegal, and also increase enforcement during rush hour.
