Description
Often, cars pull up in front of the Westville Post Office to drop someone off or put something in the mailbox. From that position, they are past the traffic light facing east on Fountain Street, but they should be able to see the smaller light at the corner of Harrison and Fountain -- but that one is blocked by a tree from their position. As a result they often run a red light, creating a dangerous situation at an already tricky intersection.

Agreed the problem is that people are illegally parking in between the lights- Those people could care less about the lights and go when it "looks ok" I can't tell you how many times I've had people jump out of there cars and threaten me because they almost hit me. I would have called the police the last time as a baseball bat was taken from a trunk, but whats the use.
Hate to say it, but closing this PO wouldn't hurt the driving/parking situation.

Installing bollards and/or striping a clearer no parking zone (combined with ticketing) would eliminate the illegal parking activity here.
Regarding the ticketing -- illegal parking that endangers others, either by blocking sightlines or obstructing crosswalks, should have a far higher fee assigned to it.
Many injuries and even some deaths in New Haven have been caused by illegally parked vehicles that obstruct visibility, and a $30 fine is not nearly high enough of a penalty for these cases.
I would support lowering fines for parking meter violations and dramatically raising them (e.g., to $200) for violations that have the potential to cause serious injuries or deaths.
