Description
The half open storm run off gutter & collection drainage street structure is collapsed. Normally there is some 2x12 Redwood planks in place so sidewalk & street Pedestrians can walk across the rain collection gutter. They are also collapsed. As a result, sidewalk pedestrians must step over a 2' open rain gutter to step from the sidewalk to the street crossing. I witnessed an 89 year old fall down on the asphalt trying to do so. I helped him back to his feet.
Secondly, the opposite street corner is even worse. Cars get damaged & stuck in both ditches.
Thirdly, the Toler Heights Council has complained to the city & Larry Reid's office for years about this problem & nothing has been done.
Fourthly, it is not enough just to put more Redwood planks. These entire Storm Collection gutters should be fully closed off & topped off with concrete & asphalt like the City of Oakland has recently done at 96th & Thermal. The moment a Motorcycle or small child falls in these collection ditches, it will be instant death or a lifetime disability for someone.
Please remember to look also at the opposite street corner across from 9703 Lawlor St. It is even worse.
Location: Intersection of Cherokee & Lawlor St.
