call the naugatuck valley health dept and make a complaint. 203-881-3255. They are very helpful in cases like this. Good luck.

I read at least 4 complaints in your message.
1) "2 unregistered vehicles on property"
- The only case in which the city can remove a vehicle from private property is if it is "abandoned" Section 16-2.2 (f) (2) [I am not a lawyer and have no connection to the city]
2) "Unregistered camper in back yard"
- if the camper is not being used as a vehicle, why does it require registration?
3) "Rear staircase to 2nd floor apartment was removed"
- Does each room have 2 "means of egress"? (a second story window counts) Why is the fact it used to be an apartment important?
4) "illegal basement apartment" - what makes it improper (other than the plumbing?) Does it only have one means of egress?

Call the fire marshall about the stair case. The vehicles on private property don't have to registered but taxes still have to be paid on them. Some else suggested the health department.

It is completely ridiculous that we need to deal with this issue daily & the City of Ansonia has done nothing (ZERO!!!!) about all these issues
To add to the other complaint:
- the 2nd floor walls & ceiling are completely moldy & the tenants are living with these conditions ( the roof was removed a while back to put an illegal roof with dormers on & it rained for days while there was no roof) no permit was ever requested for the roof to come off in the 1st place.
- the basement electricity is wired into the 2nd floor appt so that when tenants are living in the illegal basement appt the 2nd floor tenants are paying for there electricity
- the illegal camper is the landlords, so yes it has been abandoned since he is now living down south.
- the tenants on the 1st floor used to have a washer & they would drain it into the yard.
How can the city continue to let this happen??!!

I am hoping someone see's this I have been renting the apartment on the first floor was promised x,y,and z would be fixed, well needless to say after have lived here for 5 months I with held rent because I actually have the electrical tied into my electricity, however lucky for me I am a former UI employee and have started taken the correct actions to go after this wonderful landlord of mine. to add to the laundry list of things about this guy, he failed to inform me that he is actually in foreclosure, some of you are probably jumping up and down for joy after hearing that! I really just wanted to say this information has been the biggest help to me and I am so appreciative that I found this site so I now have more than just my word about what this guy is doing. I have been so sick since the winter and now I know why I have very bad allergies and the black mold is killing me and I figured this money pit was moldy. Again Thank you!

Go to cityofansonia.com. its the official website for all of the city. Look under city ordinances and you should see that an ordinance is in place that states only one unregistered vehicle includeing boats trailers and cars are allowed on the property I have similar issues next to me. I also see a shed which collapsed from last winters snow which is now like a huge garbage can on the property unregistered vehicles around. Mattress's against house all summer still there garbage cans left out things of this nature all of which the city CAN deal with but they seem to ignore the city has a full time zoneing/antiblight officer who in my opinion drives by with his eyes closed these issues are all in the open easy to spot I don't understand what the problem is in not haveing this stuff cleaned up its an embarrassment to have company when it looks like you live in the middle of the dump.

OK Bob thanks for the info however I don't think you know the property because I live there and there isn't a shed that is in shambles nor any mattress's and as for the interior of the apartment although it doesn't look to be in such a dismay its the under lying problems that are my concern such as black mold, repairs that were promised before I had moved in, the electrical being tied into my breaker and especially the fact that I'm paying $950 a month for property that is in foreclosure. So please do not insult me by asking how I can have company over I come from a very well known family from Shelton and work for a very reputable local company. But thank you for informing me of the city's site.

Im so sorry but you totaly misunderstood wat I said. The mattress the shed and the embarrasment of haveing company I was refering to myself that's why I said I can relate never meant to insult you I also feel I grew up in a well known family and very nice neighborhood and am still amazed how some people can live as I mentioned I also have my own medical issues and worry about things like a mattress and open shed and such becuz they attract rodents and im concerned of the diseases they bring unfortunately I own my house and can't seem to get full cooperation from city again I didn't mean to offend sorry if I did..

Your landlord tookoff after ruining that property. He runied the front porch and god knows what else! The previous tennant stopped paying the rent because he was getitng the foreclosure notices. You should stop paying also. He is using your rent to pay his mortgage and bills down in Tennessee or Kentucky or wherever he is. He has created a path all along the east coast all the way to Florida and getitng in trouble with zoning all along the way. That house has been in foreclosure for awhile from what others of told us. That house was falling apart when he purchased it but he really made a mess of it. Good luck!

Thank you for the extra info. and I wish we weren't so gullible before moving in. I was just so excited prior to moving in because I'm an Architecture & Interior Design student and I saw a great opportunity to build my portfolio since it seemed to just be minor cosmetic work that needed to be done such as paint, a good cleaning and the obvious like screens and so forth with him promising to take money off the rent for materials and we would do the labor at no cost to him! Needless to say 5 months later nothing has yet to be done and the house is filled with black mold. However my apartment has no visible mold on the inside which is now a problem for me because the health inspector sounded as if it wasn't such a problem because its not visible which I'm hoping I am wrong in thinking this because I'm a little knowledgeable to know the obvious like that the mold doesn't need to be visible for it to be harmful and I have been so sick since the colder months have begun. I have had a bird fly into my kitchen at me do to no screens, found a mushroom growing in my bathroom, living room light doesn't work, missing vent covers and light fixtures, the electricity and heat in the illegal apartment is tied into mine, an electrical box hanging out of the wall, fuses constantly tripping in the kitchen, the upstairs plumbing leaks into my bathtub through the ceiling, the kitchen sink is constantly bubbling up, 2 closet doors missing, water comes in threw the top of the backdoor frame and lets not forget I still have the last tenants hand prints painted in my living room since I cant paint until he fixes the exposed sheet rock. Now over the past weeks I have spoke to some city officials and according to them he did have permits for the roof but this guy defiantly has other issues. Its funny though because I have yet to meet my landlord but he supposedly will be up this month (I can't wait!).Now that I am demanding him fix things and we are no longer willing to volunteer our services to fix his apartment and have been contacting everyone I can about this guy. He is harassing me by saying he is going to send me back my rent (which is a lie) and wants us out asap because according to him my boyfriend and myself are making a scene! He sent us a bogus eviction letter that he typed up after he got paid then included that my dogs are destroying his house, really? they are very well behaved and even if they weren't I have no clue how they could do more damage then there already is. We will call him to have his family pick up the rent they never show then he wants to charge a late fee's for every day its late perfect example his cousin or whoever he is came last night went right upstairs and ignored me while I was standing there & I'm sure after the 10th he's going to threaten us with $75 a day late fees oh and lets not forget he doesn't like it sent to him (I'm guessing so there's no paper trail! I hope by posting this that future tenants are aware because I wish I had saw all this informative stuff prior to moving in and I googled this property multiple times with seeing nothing.

sure he got permits from the city but did he never finished the job and told the city and the city may not have followed up on inspection. If they did that illegal apartment in the basement would not be there.

The only permit that was pulled for the roof was the one that he HAD to get after he ripped the roof off & the city inspector came out & caught him without a permit. He was putting dormers on the roof & the City would not approve that so they made him apply for a permit to fix it back to it's original condition.
I am pretty sure if the Health Inspector came out & looked at the second floor apartment he would not let anyone live in the house after seeing what is going on up there.

What's going on on the 2nd floor?

who was that guy who pulled up in the honda ridgeline last night and knocked on the door of the first floor apartment and had paper work in his hands? no one answered and it looked like he left the paperwork in the door.
