Description
People going in to Romeos' -- a great place, and i go there often! -- park illegally on all corners. particularly egregious are those that park at the bus stop on the southbound side of Orange, because it causes buses further out into the street, making it very unsafe for pedestrians and for cyclists. But equally dangerous are the delivery trucks that completely block the crosswalks.

I have seen this issue myself--it is endemic to the entire neighborhood. I really wish we could get this resolved.
For the non-bus stops, I think the best solution is planters or other ways of extending the curb so no one is capable of parking there.
Obviously delivery trucks run into an issue with that, but I think we can work with Orange street merchants to ensure that deliveries are done outside of high-traffic times, we can make it a lot safer. Perhaps we can "allow" a business to put in a loading zone in the public parking spots for an annual fee to cover the cost of eliminating the parking spot?

but bus drivers aside, the point is that people who are in a hurry to pick up their lunch at romeo's can take a few extra minutes to park in a legal spot and walk a few extra yards -- sheesh, given the high caloric content of some of that food, they really ought to be grateful for the extra walk.

I agree that people blocking intersections on Orange St. to make it easier for them to go buy sandwiches, expensive bread, etc. sucks -- no argument -- and I am on the record as wishing to God that folks would NOT BLOCK BUS STOPS because it's incredibly dangerous for us bus users to get on/off the buses as a result. But I just read Bob's comments about the Yale Shuttle drivers, and I'm thinking... Yeah, although: am I wrong in thinking, "but they never drive north on Orange St., and so aren't really part of the problem on this particular issue"? I'm thinking of the Orange line, which heads south on Orange St. from Canner, but goes north via Whitney.
Just thinking out loud. As you were. :)
