You would think the City of Lansing and the BWL would have learned that lesson, however, I complained to the BWL about a scrub tree in my neighbor's back yard that is growing into power lines and if a semi strong storm comes through, will likely cause power outages. The BWL's response? "The trees you are concerned about do not pose an immediate threat to safety or electric service. We will schedule these trees to be addressed as part of our regular maintenance program." I guarantee the scrub tree will grow and grow and grow and the BWL will NOT prune it. The tree should be cut down. It is ugly and growing into the power lines.

There are actually two different issues here being discussed. Trees on private property aren't considered the City's responsibility, but they are the BWL's problem if they are on power lines. This one, though, is a city tree, so I'm hoping the city can have the forester take down the dead bough before it bonks a pedestrian. :)

I do understand your frustration about your neighbor's tree. Some of my neighbors allow what I call "weed trees" to grow into whole forests in their backyards, which I don't understand.

Update, please? It's still quite dead on that side and on the verge of falling onto the yard or driveway, hopefully not while someone is standing there.

Still dead, bits are starting to fall. When the whole thing comes down I hope no one is underneath.

Still untrimmed. I'll be surprised if it doesn't break during the winter.

Well, somehow it did not fall down yet, but it's still looming there.
