Description
I turn right ( coming from the north on Bathurst st) into Lake Shore Blvd West from this intersection everyday and EVERYDAY at least 50% of the cars are in the wrong turning lane. There is a small sign there and some guidelines on the pavement but it seems like most people are confused, leading to people honking and almost crashing into one another EVERYDAY. It is very dangerous and frustrating as a driver and I would hate to see something serious happen here one day.

I am on the street car travelling south to Fleet St. every day and I witness the chaos. With all due respect to this person, I would disagree about drivers being 'confused.' I witness wholesale selfishness, rudeness, lack of regard for others, lack of respect for others; you name it about the lack of concern for others.
The drivers who want to turn left onto kae Shore going east, are to impatient to stay in line and wait to make their turn. Drivers proceeding south through the intersection are too impatient to stay in line which is, more or less, along the street car thoraces. Drivers wanting to turn right onto Lake Shore use the right lane, which is the right turning lasne for drivers wishing to turn onto Fleet St.
Then there are the drivers who make illegal left turns from Lake Shore or driving north on Bathurst onto Fleet St. Those drivers do not care. They can get away with it because the police do not try to stop this from happening. I know because I spent an hour during an afternoon rush hour, taking pictures of cars making that illegal left turn. During that one hour, I shot 52 cars making the illegal turn.
The problems are the lack of cooperation and respect of drivers and lack of police presence. I would also say that a complete redesign of the intersection should be done but this chaos has been going on so long that I have no respect for the municipal govt. to do so.
What can happen to alleviate the chaos in the short term?
1. TTC vehicles proceeding north on Bathurst onto Fleet have an advanced green. Why can't there be an equivalent advanced green for drivers turning east onto Lake Shore at the same time? This would speed up traffic a little bit
2. There must be a constant police presence at this intersection. Otherwise, drivers will act in their own interest and not care about anything else.
3. Driver education from the municipality or sponsored by the province about proper etiquette at a difficult intersection as this one.
The last one is the most doubtful to happen. Driver impatience is a major problem and until they have concerns about their fellow citizens using the same roadway, either driving, walking, using the TTC, riding bicycles, nothing will change.
