Description

It seems that when cars are broken into and property stollen in New Haven the procedure now is that one must go to police headquarters to report the problem. If you cannot get to the police station(because of damage to the car, the need to report to work, etc.) this is a problem. An online system of reporting leads you to a page with an error message. There is no evidence of any police response to incidents of vandalism and burglary. This is an inadequate system.
More than 3 weeks later I still do not have an incident # for my insurance from the New Haven Police Department. I have made repeated calls and been told (by some politely, by others not so politely) that they cannot find the paperwork. I have tried to fax a copy and found the fax # constantly busy. When I delivered the paperwork to the main police station no one behind the desk was aware of this new system and initially did not want to accept my paperwork. They had me call the non emergency line and an officer on that end confirmed that I was proceeding correctly and asked to speak to the desk sargeant. That officer then took the paper work but clearly was not sure what to do with it.
This system clearly needs some serious evaluation by the NHPD.
