Description
Teens parking on both sides of the road to swim are impeding traffic. They open their car doors and stand in the road. This area is between two curves and they are not visible until vehicles are almost on top of them. There should be temporary no parking signs along the road as this area by Stillwater because it has become a popular swimming spot. Someone is going to be injured or killed.

We are not all teens, and we are parked legally. If you slow down and drive the speed limit then there is no problem. As for teens standing in the road with their doors open, I have not seen this. I have seen them get out their cars and collect their belongings and then close the door when they are finished, also not illegal. Stop complaining and share the roadway, slow down and no one will get hurt. You suggest temporary no parking signs, so it's okay at other times to park there just not now? Leave things well enough alone and let folks enjoy their summer.

Yes, parking on both sides of the road is dangerous as it is difficult to get both northbound and southbound traffic by the area at the same time. Even at the posted speed limit (40 mph), with the curves being where they are, by the time you see the cars, you are on them. No parking signs on the west side of Rte 272 would decrease the chances of someone getting hurt. Have fun, have a refreshing swim, but please be safe!

this is a problem/concern of mine as well, I travel this road several times a day and have encountered the same problems as Judy. Yesterday I had to come to a dead stop because a truck was in the middle of the road talking to a teen who was standing in the middle of the road. There is a dangerous curve and depending on where you are standing you may not be visible to cars heading towards Torrington.

I was going to close this issue after swimming season was over, but now I see that fishermen are parked all along the road with the tail ends of their cars sticking out into the road. Please, some temporary no parking signs.

For concerned parent, I know a 12 year old who was hit on his bicycle in that same spot a number of years ago. The corner blocks your view of parked vehicles and people.
