Description

On the base of East Rock, on the west side, from Farnham Dr (at Orange St.), going North to Park Rd, then up to the Hamden exit at Davis St.. , the road has been closed by New Haven Police, so as to accomodate a bridge construction crew at East rock Rd. It has been two days so far, and on contacting a NHPD Communications supervisor for information on the closing, he was unaware that NH Officers had closed the road, failed to establish detour signs one block north and south of the blockage(so motorists would not find themselves forced to drive the wrong way into the park) instead of detouring at an appropriate point to tale an alternate route. NHPD was unaware of the hazard, which seems to have been established to spare the officers from standing in the road and alternating traffic by doing hand traffic, for which they were paid to do, and to keep the road open.

As usual trying to get a constructive reponse on disputive behavior of their officers, when it was caused by being poorly trained, lazy, and not supervised on their extra-duty "road" jobs.

At rush hour (5 PM) was a a hazardous mess as cars tried to turn around in heavy traffic and the NH Officer posed while leaning against his SUV and talking on his cell phone.

And as noted the main link in communications, when contacted, was totally unaware of the hazard, did not know what to do about it, or who to cantact in the PD who was responsible for correcting this dereliction of duty.

No surprise this is typical of that department and most city departments at this time.
