Description
At approximately 8:45 am today I was on Orange St heading NE waiting at a red light behind a tow truck. Humphrey St had the green light. Visibility for traffic heading NW on Humphrey was blocked by the tow truck in front of me. All of a sudden a tow truck 2 or 3 vehicles behind me pulled into the oncoming lane and sped up Orange St, passing through the Humphrey intersection at about 25 mph, accelerating, not braking. If any vehicle had reached the intersection from Humphey from the south side, there would have been a TERRIBLE accident. I was so shocked I didn't think to get a description of the tow truck. If anyone else saw this, or if there are cameras in that intersection, I hope this can be investigated.

Were you driving, walking or riding a bike? Sounds horrible. I'm sorry this happened to you.

The tow trucks are out of control in New Haven, often breaking traffic rules at every single intersection. They should be shadowed by undercover officers and ticketed until they drive in compliance with the law.

the greedy tow trucks want to get back quickly to tow more cars

with one more tow, they will earn back the amount of a ticket
best way is to suspend their operation - that will kill their business, for dangering people's lives

this is what the towtrucks do when its alternate side parking day. They ride around like an armada, sometimes with police as well. These operators (most of whom are in east haven) should be stopped. Please dont sweep my streets if this is the cost.

What r u new to the city. This is how they drive- usually they are speeding too.
There is a police officer that is assigned to all tow truck complaints just call 946-6316 and ask.
Even if you have the colors of the truck would help.

Mark,
The police and the tow trucks work together. There will be no ticketing of tow companies by police.

someone should take videos to post them on line. and see what does the city do

I can tell you how many times I've seen tow trucks out of control in New Haven.

have you ever noticed----why does a city need this many towtrucks anyway??!!

Tow trucks, taxi's and buses are ALL out of control! They ALL think they own the roads and can do whatever they please. I cant tell you how many times Ive called to complain about the city buses and their complete lack of concern.

@Joe No - you consistently post absolutely useless replies. Either be apart of the solution or go away. Your posts make you completely invalid and no one cares what you have to say. How about helping for a change?

I agree that this is a real problem - I regularly see tow trucks speeding and running red lights on street sweeping days.

I see this all the time. It really is only a matter of time before someone is hurt seriously.
