Description
This board is most often used to post issues and complaints. It can often take a very negative tone because people are frustrated when they don't see action taken or disagree on who should remedy a problem.
Well, perhaps 6 months ago I KNOW this topic was posted here, there was much discussion and some comments that the City of Ansonia was aware of the issue and trying to take action.
The intersection of Main and Maple in downtown Ansonia was VERY dangerous. The signal installed on Main did not allow for ANY right of way for motorists wishing to make a left turn onto Maple and go over the bridge. This meant people had to either rush the moment the light turned green to beat traffic flowing down Main to make the turn, try and dive between the endless flow of cars heading down Main to get over the bridge before the light turned red again or (even worse) pull into the intersection and make your turn as soon as the light turned red before cars wanting to turn from Maple to Main could move... you basically had to block them.
It amazed me this intersection was setup this way and that accidents were not a regular occurrence.
Well, while it must have happened recently, just this morning I was headed down Main and was stunned to see a LEFT TURN LIGHT has been installed on this signal!
Now, cars wanting to turn left are given a green arrow so they may safely do so before opposing traffic is allowed to flow.
THANK YOU ANSONIA! Thank you for reading this board and for taking action. To anyone who says this site does nothing, see the photo.
(BTW, if that bus didn't run a red light on Maple, it came damn close... but that's another thread.)
Much appreciated!

Apparently it does take DOT more than a year to identify the funds, purchase the equipment and install the signal. Now if they can just correct the pavement markings to coincide with the two signals...

Planner, just the fact that this site has PROVEN it's effectiveness with this ONE light shows we're moving forward. As you said, Linda Gentile followed up after it was raised again here.
So, I hereby thank Linda Gentile Maybe we can make a list of other projects for her. :)

I noticed many of the Signal devices on Ansonia's Route 115 are well past their certification and easy to spot because they do not contain the LED technology developed years ago. Many CT towns have been running these New LED designs on their secondary’s for many years.
There is actually a light located at the Bank of America/Spector Furniture intersection which allows a driver to exit his car to place a quarter in the controller so it turns Green in a timely manner.
I guess another sign of the times & appearance of the town as seen in the foreground of the posted picture.

No, I believe Foreground is deemed necessary. That large archaic structure cannot be missed easily even for many of the eye troubled elderly on Main Street. You have to admit it overshadows any traffic light which should be blinking RED in the area serving a dual purpose to stop and warn all passing of possible objects falling off the entire acreage. Had guests in my back seat one evening who even commented negatively.
Foreground in Webster - the part of a scene or representation that is nearest to and in that cannot be missed by any spectator. A position of prominence.
