To respond to Biker babe.....I bought my home in the winter with the doors and windows closed. I had no idea come the warm weather, that the freeway noise would be so loud. I thought I was far enough away. I would say I am about 3/4 of a mile away, and no kidding, sometimes I can't talk on my phone without shutting the doors and windows. Depends which way the wind is blowing I guess...
By looking at a map, it's looks like you're more like 1/4-1/2 of a mile from the freeway, so I would expect it to be loud. I think spending money on sound barriers is a complete waste of taxpayer money, but since they seem to be putting them up everywhere, eventually, your wish may come true.
Builders, realtors should share some responsibility for not making sure people realize the close proximity to the freeways. It is awful to have such loud noises. There are so many zoning regulations that I am surprised this is not part of building criteria.
I bought my home in the winter and didn't realize until summer how loud the I-90 traffic is. I truly thought I was far enough away. I used to enjoy sleeping with my windows open but can no longer do that. The roaring semis are just too loud for me.
