Description
what is going on with the traffic light by BJ'S and Stop and Shop? it is not working properly and cars have had to wait almost 10 minutes for the light to change. It stays green for traffic going past McDonalds and continuing up the hill past the Shell gas station. I know the police have noticed it because I have seen them turn their lights on to pass through it. Is it a Derby or and Ansonia issue?

You may Contact CT DOT at: http://www.dotdata.ct.gov/contacts/contactus.aspx but it probably would be quicker to call the Traffic Engineer at the District IV Maintenence office (203) 591-3540
Yes, CTDOT plows the snow on all of those streets. If a road has a state route # then it is maintained by state forces.

Why rush the light. Look at the benefits of the view while parked at the light. It is going from worse to extreme.

I am so happy you posted this! This signal has not worked properly for a long time but I don't travel that way often and had forgotten about it. I have seen it function properly (it seems) and then go haywire.
Cars will back up all the way down past Taco Bell and to the Stop & Shop plaza exit while the light will keep turning green for both sides of Division but never to release cars on North Division. This signal does not seem to have a sensor so it's not a matter of cars on North Division not pulling far enough up, the light just stops turning green for North Division for long periods.
Planner is correct that this is a state road. However, in addition to all of us using the contact link he provided, I am going to trust that both the mayor's of Derby and Ansonia have seen this post and are having their staffs contact the DOT also. It takes more than just a couple people to get this looked at.

I know what you mean planner. I have been trapped in the mess created when all the signals switch over for the train. Of course, the train needs to pass safely. The rough part is the distance from the tracks to Pershing is not very long and cars pile up since people can still make a right turn onto Division in front of Red Raiders when the train is passing... not that there is any room for their car among the two dozen trapped between division and the tracks already.
I did experience this light problem at North Division a couple times and I don't recall hearing the train, but it's an interesting thought. To sit at North Division when the signals does this and see Division getting green lights over and over with no green signals for ND traffic is maddening. If you need to turn left towards Shell you're only choice is to make a right on red and go all the way around.
I hope whatever work was witnessed was a fix.

Actually, you cannot turn right from Pershing to Division toward the tracks. When the signals go into lockout an illuminated "No Turn On Red" sign lights up until the cycle is over.
