Description
the large construction site off Friendly drive has left a large rectangular hole in the road at the entrance to the Dan Allen deck. NCSU has been trying to help but it is city property. The construction firm finally filled the hole with gravel. They should put a temporary paving fix there. Cars entering the deck swerve into oncoming traffic which is leaving the deck, in order to miss it. cars leaving the deck have poor visibility due to going from dark deck to daylight. Unfortunately, many of the drivers using the deck are very young, new, inexperienced drivers. I expect the construction is going to go on for a year or more, so a gravel fix is not going to cut it. Please have them patch it. Thanks

I've referred this to our Public Works Department. I will update this issue when I have heard back from them. Thanks for reporting.

This is a construction cut that has been backfilled and does not appear to be a hazard. We contacted Brassfield and Gorrie and asked if they could speed up the patch. They agreed to patch it within the week.

i don't think the issue is closed if it has yet to be patched. After they patch, you can claim this is closed. Please reopen this complaint until it is actually fixed.

the response from the city said the construction company will patch it within in a week. it is still a city road and until it is fixed, this shouldn't be considered closed

This is a cut in the street made by a contractor. It is in reasonably good shape and the contractor is not required to finish the patch until the project is completed. We contacted Brassfield and Gorry again and asked if they could patch it as soon as possible. It is at the end of a street that the City maintains only the front part of. We measured to the patch and the section with the cut is NOT maintained by the City so we cannot do more to encourage the contractor to complete the patch. For further information, please contact George Nance at 996-6446 or via email at george.nance@raleighnc.gov.

The hole has yet to be patched and the driving hazard is still present. Raleigh is looking into it but until the driving hazard is fixed, this issue isn't closed.

The City is the only agency tracking See Click Fix inquiries. This is located on private property and as long as the hole is filled with gravel there is no violation of city codes. The contractor indicates they are going to repave the entire cross section upon completion of the project but do not wish to patch it now considering the full repavement on the way. This is entirely at their discretion, so as regards the City's involvement here we need to close the issue now, since we will be taking no further action.

The problem has not been solved. I never said it was he city's fault, I simply listed the problem. The city told me that the company told them they would fix it. The company seems to have changed its mind. The city has given a private company a construction permit and the company has caused a road hazard which people swerve into oncoming traffic to avoid. Raleigh has not right to close this problem. If Raleigh wants to help get this problem fixed, please send me the contact name of the company, and between the city, the company, NCSU, Councilman Crowder, and the 1000's of people who drive in and out of the parking deck, students and staff alike, I bet we can get this fixed.

Wish we could take credit for it, but it seems the contractor decided to go ahead and patch it on their own. Still should be entirely repaved when construction is complete...
