ABUSED/NEGLECTED ANIMALS

If you are concerned that an animal in Oakland is being abused or neglected, please call 510.777.3333 to report the problem. You will need to provide the dispatcher with the address of the location of the animal and as much information about the situation as possible. Examples of abuse/neglect:

Purposefully hurting an animal
Not providing adequate food and/or regular access to fresh water
Not providing shelter from the elements (including heat, cold and rain)
Keeping a dog chained or tethered for over three hours
Keeping an animal confined without room to exercise

I am aware of this dog. Recently I've been hearing him crying during the day as well and I sincerely hope that they are not leaving him out in this heat. I does sound like he is be neglected. When I enquire at the house where he lives about who he belongs to I can never get a straight answer but based on what I am hearing daily, it sounds like this poor animal is in need of some TLC.

I hope someone has called Oakland Animal Services (510) 535-5602 or the OPD non-emergency line to report this. People may not know that Oakland Animal Services is a division of the Oakland Police Dept. They are very short-staffed so rarely answer the phone. The best place to call and report neglect or abuse is 510-777-3333. Seeclickfix doesn't forward these reports to them.

The dog belongs to the young Asian male at 5300 Genoa. The dog is left alone in the backyard all day and into the night. He howls as if he has been abandoned. The owner of this property is Richard Fox (510-590-1033 text/cell). That dog is clearly miserable and not in a good situation.

Good info. Now all you need to do is call and report it. Reporting it here on seeclickfix will not get the dog the help he needs. You need to make the call to either Oakland Animal Services or to the OPD non-emergency line if you want to help this poor dog. I can't do it for you, as I have not witnessed or heard the neglect/abuse and howling. It's up to you, the neighbors to take action. That will not happen from a seeclickfix report. Please make the call.

I live two houses down and have contacted Animal Services, the Oakland Police Department, as well as PETA. The property owner has also been notified. I think the immediate neighbors have been speaking to him, as well. OPD has visited the property at least once, as well as the SPCA. The dog continues to howl. Nobody seems to really care about this animal.

The dog was removed.
