Description

I live downtown, I didn't sit outside all day to watch this, but I returned early from my hike and came back, when I was home I did move my car every 2 hours when I was there like I am suppose to, some residents do a really good job of moving I have noticed, but its the business that don't do anything. Otherwise I rarely saw any other car move from any parking spot in the 2nd Street area, Broadway, any place around the monument, I saw the Mayor pose for pictures around 3PM. I'm sure it was regarding the demolition that will get rid of the eyesore, sucks that it was held up, but having that open air exposure to the asbestos makes me breath easy (ha), glad to hear its coming down finally. How do they expect to move city hall downtown area, and address parking issues, and garbage that gets picked up on every three days, people who leave out garbage on the wrong days or in the middle of the day after pickup and other quality of life issues that will come as other eateries and establishments try to open up for longer hours. The other day on June 11th (I think that was Flag day or the day before when the AF was performing at the bank), saw cops drive by a Subaru on Broadway in front of Illium, that was parked on wrong side of a one way, facing the wrong direction and clearly visible from numerous places/streets in the area, parked in the middle of all the other spots for hours . Not one ticket, not a tow, nothing. I live downtown, and the amount of cars traveling the wrong way on 2nd street and Broadway is surprising even with the signs. I still have to look both ways on a one way street. What are you going to expect when you already have protestors downtown picketing almost daily, people who park and don't move their cars, and businesses and their employees never moving a single car even though they have permits for the garages and other lots because they park right in front of their businesses all day without moving any hour. I at least move my car every two hours, maybe 2.5 hours on rainy days to see if I can catch a break in the weather, but at least I move it. Its just going to get worse, and with this city and its government bickering over the smallest things, and being in court all day, I am surprised they get any work done, but I do appreciate that you still go to work even with all the constant B.S that surrounds every council, office and department. I wish I could be mayor, or just that guy who could write tickets to people who do wrong things and don't follow basic rules. Get me a golfcart and a ticket book and I probably would be able to pay my own salary, benefits etc, in tickets and make some money for the city as well. Also if a car is ticketed once right in front of its owner, and the owner see's its ticketed, why don't they move it, and why doesn't someone just come by again to ticket it since it has not moved previous ticket in place. Witnessed that a couple of weeks ago. Car got one ticket in the morning, and they just left the car there all day, and not another ticket was issued throughout the day.

Now imagine when the T.F.D and T.P.D need to get through the downtown area, when people are already double parked, in front of banks, or clogging up 2nd street, between river and broadway (on the monument side, where there is no parking allowed by signage I believe). Imagine who is going to suffer or whats going to burn longer because they decided the government needed to look good. Efficiency should be the only model this city government should be looking for. Not location, not what is new and pretty, EFFICIENCY in government. Think about how many times TFD has to go through river street daily, to go anywhere, or TPD when they have to get to a dangerous situation, you are making things worse by moving downtown CITYHALL. Your constituents are not being listened to, and I am not sure who is supporting a move downtown other than the council, but if anything buy up and rent out to someone. I would love to buy up downtown if I had the money because I know what people want to some degree and can plan ahead to those needs very well, but your thinking short term always, and that just sucks. Your going to have to put a bus stop closer, which is practically impossible because you have to accommodate those with disabilities per every government act, which is going to already be an issue with your other selected locations downtown. The sidewalks which the letter from E.Stewart addressed, are going to need serious improvement and I am still thinking small minded because I am nestled in the cove of downtown, but what about everyone else in the city. Why not move to an area that is desolate of the city and improve that area, or to other places that are more accessible by main pathways with larger roadways. I know I will receive backlash for all my points, but at least some are out there. I am not even a business owner, imagine what the owners could do if people just moved their cars.

Also if there is not going to be any ticketing downtown someone please tell me because I would rather just sleep more in those few hours between jobs. Thanks!
