Description

The "Walk/Don't Walk" signal on the northeast corner of Market at Sanchez is not aimed correctly. Because the signal cannot be seen easily unless viewed straight on, it's very difficult to see the "WALK" signal when standing across the street at 15th & Market (by the 76 station) and waiting to cross the street. The problem is very apparent on bright, sunny days, when it's almost impossible to see the signal from the crosswalk, it seems to be pointed too far to the west. On cloudy days or in the evening, the light is more visible and it's not a problem.

The problem is particularly annoying because the initial phase of the WALK signal occurs when the vehicle traffic light is red. So as a pedestrian, if you can't see the walk signal, you have no clue that it's time to start across. By the time the vehicle light turns green, half the walking time has expired, and you often get stuck in the middle of the intersection.
