it is the yellow house, at the intersection of cottage and foster (not sure of number , it's on the odd side and the Foster /Cottage intersection sign is right in front of the house). they have one of those outdoor fire pit things and burn all sorts of material in it.
This is considered a Campfire under the State Statute for Open Burning. Only non processed wood can be burned and it can not create a nuisance. To determine a nuisance, someone would need to respond at the time of the fire. Local officials address this type of issue. Contact the local Fire Marshal or Health department to determine who in the town responds to these situation. Have the number on hand the next time they create a nuisance.
Pervasive stench of wood smoke, AGAIN. The last time was the day before Irene, where unpleasantly, there was low atmospheric pressure and hence a bank of smoke "fog."
Someone on Nicoll Street is burning AGAIN. Third time this month, second time this week with pervasive stench of smoke in the neighborhood. There are NO laws that limit it, so this could happen every day or every week with no consequences!
Have you tried calling the Fire Marshal /Health dept, as recommended below? When this happens and we notice it, it's often at night, when we can't call. If you could call, it would be a huge help, possibly....

I know for a fact that 175 Nicoll OFTEN burns in their back-yard, giving off a lot of smoke. I'm personally not against fire-pits, or burning every now and then- in fact it is a nice smell (for me)- but if the person doing it is giving off a TON of smoke, it IS a nuisance in the neighborhood, and should be reported if they are doing it over and over. Their neighbors to the left have parties every now and then and burn, but its not smokey like 175. I suspect 175 are trying to burn-off a tree that fell, and it is not cured/dried properly, hence the smoke. They might not even realize that there is so much smoke. I would try leaving them a note, asking them to be mindful of the smoke amounts.
Wow, then it wasn't 175- I didn't see it today, and I don't smell it. Sorry! But I would still send the note- perhaps a polite flyer to your surrounding neighborhood block about it?

ERocker- you mean a 911 call? If so, I feel weird about using emergency services to do that.
Uncle Egg- I am one of those who rather enjoy it, but when you feel like you are living in a fireplace it is unpleasant.
