Description

Traffic turning onto Franklin Avenue from westbound University Avenue is controlled by a dedicated left turn arrow. Later in the evening, the timing of this left turn opportunity is too short; it appears to be differently timed than earlier in the day. On several occations, while trying to make this turn at around 10:15 p.m, with one or two cars ahead of me in the turn lane, the arrow has turned yellow just as I have driven onto the Green Line tracks. On these occasions, the duration of the yellow arrow has been too brief and does not provide enough time to traverse the entire intersection at a reasonable speed before the arrow turns red. However, aborting the left turn by stopping on the Green Line tracks will soon become dangerous, once the trains start running, and backing up into the left turn lane is also inadvisable. The duration of the yellow arrow should be adjusted to allow a vehicle which starts the turning movement on the yellow to fully traverse the intersection before the arrow turns red.
