Hi, the city of Brookhaven is putting a median in front of my apartment complex, Esquire Apartments, on Buford Hwy. The median will block the entrance so you can not turn left out of the complex or turn left into the complex. This will be dangerous as people have already started trying to make a U-turn to come into the complex. Also, it will make it more difficult for emergency vehicles to get into the complex. The next 2 apartments will not have any median in front of their entrance/exits. Why are the residents of Esquire apartments being treated unfairly? Why can't they move the median about 10 or 15 feet back so people can still turn into and out of the neighborhood? I have been told that they are putting the medians in because lots of people are trying to cross Buford Hwy (not in cross walks). If they were to move the median back a bit, we could get in and out of our neighborhood and the median would still be there to help anyone crossing the street. Please help us with this!!!

The median is being installed by Georgia DOT as part of the Buford Hwy Pedestrian and Streetscape Improvement Project. When construction is complete, per the plans they provided to the city, the median will run the entire length of the road between Curtis Drive and North Cliff Valley Way. U-turns would be allowed at the signalized intersections with both those roads with no breaks in the median between those roads. In addition, two mid-block signalized pedestrian crossings (HAWK signals) are being installed on that section between Curtis and North Cliff Valley. This is a project GDOT and DeKalb have been planning for years, including holding numerous public meetings, before Brookhaven became a city.
