We have called bylaw regarding excessive barking and dogs that are left out all hours of the day(and freezing weather) and were told that breed is bred to stay outside. Nothing was ever done about the excessive barking 4am or 4pm the dog is always barking. I don't mind the barking, that's what dogs do but all the time by the same dog? Take the poor dog inside once and a while!

Bylaw and dogs barking. All I can say is what a joke. The chances of them doing anything is about ZERO. I realize the barking dogs are a pain, but the lack of attention from bylaw is even worse. Maybe just start calling the mayor's office.

bylaw doesnt want to fine any of the rental properties...they dont like dealing with slumlords who eventually get the ticket....more should be done about this...maybe landlords will start listening

I brought a rescue dog home and had her outside for a day while our fence was being built and I got a visit from bylaw that night saying I would be getting a ticket because of the complaints. I asked them what dog of mine was barking and they couldn't tell me. How can you ticket me if you don't know what dog it was barking? There are dogs left outside behind me every day and night all year long that bark and bark and bark. I leave mine out for a day and got a threat. It's who ya know and who ya blow in this town

What is the issue? A barking dog is a way better security system than most people buy. What would people want these animals to do. Not bark and whine about that when people are in your yard doing things. I choose to close this issue. Why? Because barking is what dogs do

your argument would make sense if the dogs barked for a reason...

but when they bark out of habit, boredom, lack of socialization, and attention then it becomes a problem....especially all night long

when they bark for a reason then people pay attention...kind of like car alarms

people dont even pay attention anymore they are just a noise now

Go Riders is right, a dog that barks constantly becomes white noise and is no use as a security device. A well trained dog will only bark when it has a reason to and that lets everyone know that something is going on that has the dog concerned. Train a dog, treat it right and give it lots of love and you have a faithful companion that does extra duty as a security device, it may even save your life as it will notice threats like fire long befor you will.

So anyways. These "animals by"instint" do bark when unfamiliar scents and movement come into their territory. And I do mean "instinct" by they were not trained to do this.
