Tropical Storm Downgraded

"The National Hurricane Center (NHC) has downgraded Erika from tropical storm to a tropical system.Officials still anticipate significant rain associated with the Erika system. In anticipation of heavy rains as well as possible flood conditions, the City of St. Petersburg is making sandbags available to residents beginning Sunday, August 30, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., until supplies are exhausted. Sand and bags will be available at the following three locations until further notice:-Northeast Park, 875 62nd Avenue NE. (located at the Cardinal Drive entrance to Mangrove Bay Golf Course)
-Bartlett Park, 22nd Avenue S. (between 6th and 7th Streets)
-Northwest Pool Parking Lot, 2331 60th Street N.
Ten bags per vehicle are allowed. Residents with city-issued bags from previous storms are encouraged to bring them for refilling. Residents are also asked to have identification verifying city residency - a Florida driver's license is preferred.Unless there is a change in the status of the storm, the NHC will no longer be issuing advisories. The National Weather Service will continue to issue local weather advisories for our area, including flood warnings.Over the course of the next several days, the City of St. Petersburg encourages you to travel with caution."
