Issues: parking meter
77-99 High St New Haven, CT 06511, USA
Three or four parking spaces on High Street immediately south of Elm Street are continuously occupied by the cars of federal government employees who work at the Yale post office. They place "U.S. Postal Service - Official Business" placards on the dashboards of their personal vehicles and never put money in the parking meters. The taxpayers of New Haven are furnishing free parking for these federal employees who should be paying for their parking just as all other workers in the downtown area must pay. Apparently, the New Haven parking authorities have readily accepted this practice, since none of the cars are ever ticketed, even though the parking meters always indicate "expired."

Last night all of the nearby racks, street signs and parking meters were being used for bike parking, causing spillover onto some inappropriate places (see photo). More bike parking would be appreciated. One possibility is to convert one parking space to a bike corral.

Over the past two weeks, graffiti with the words "Dirty Harry" has appeared on the City Parking Meter and on many light posts along Mutual Street from Maitland Street to Carlton Street. Please help with the removal of this graffiti.

With the parking meters, tree boxes, stairs, and high pedestrian volumes: the sidewalk along the south side of U Street immediately east of 14th Street is particularly narrow.
[I believe DDOT is already studying this issue, but figured I'd report it, just in case]

If you want people to come downtown then get rid of those &*^$## parking meters. [I know this is a dead issue and has been raised many times before-but I just had to ask. thanks for letting me vent. Have a good day.]

Not only does the existing bike rack fill up, but so do all of the parking meters and signs on the other side of the street. An extra bike rack on the sidewalk in front of Blue State would be great! Even better would be if Blue State could lease a parking spot on Wall St and convert it to a whole row of bike racks.

The city cut out a parking meter and left a tripping hazard.

I had some extra money left on my meter. I assumed i could re-insert my credit card to get it back on my card. I was surprised to see that the City confiscates the leftover money.
I believe this is wrong. I equate this to a "gift card" being expired and the money then just disappearing.
No matter how we view the privilege of parking in New Haven, the money should not be disappearing into the ether.
We should be able to get it back on our credit card.
