I'm seeing quite a few people concerned about the traffic structure around Cornerstone, now that more development is beginning on the north side of 15th Street. I don't think the city is addressing the issues that may arise from all the traffic that is going to be going that way. As usual, they probably won't address it until it's far too late.
I'm noticing a large number of vehicles now stopped all up the 6th Ave viaduct, waiting to turn right towards Cornerstone. Husky's been gone for a long time now and I have been wondering for YEARS now why the city doesn't put in a right turning lane, like the one on the opposite side of the street. In fact, there should be turning right lanes at each corner of that intersection, for the safety of both drivers and pedestrians.
A few concerns came up over lights. There should be lights at each spot where the south side of Cornerstone crosses to the north side, end of story. I don't know who's ever been to South Edmonton Common, or even Stonebridge in Saskatoon, but both shopping centres are traffic nightmares contained within a parking lot. Cornerstone is going to end up being the exact same thing, only across a through street rather than contained within a parking lot.
I hope the city wises up to that.
