Several issues may be contributing to this as well. First, all the lights are out on the pier AGAIN. No one seems concerned to fix them. So, there are lots of people congregating around triangle park late into the night. They seem to be leaving their trash around. Second, Schooner inc has a dumpster that is sitting as an eye soar over on south Water street; almost directly across from the park on the side facing the harbor. If people see this dumpster overflowing with trash it may encourage them to just throw trash on the ground. Also, people from outside of city point are using it to dump large trash items; not to mention the scrap dealers that come down and dumpster dive trhough it...and just throw the trash that is in the way onto the ground. Finally, the high school has seen a budget cut back as it relates to security guards. There are no longer guards posted in the triangle park area during lunch or at the end of the day when students now are roaming the streets versus staying onthe sidewalks. I have watched as students have thrown their trash on the ground inthe park, and in the streets. Perhaps if the City kept up the park people wouldnt be as inclined to treat it like a dumping ground. Perhaps, if Schnnor Inc put the dumpster where it use to be...over by the aquacultural center..people would be less inclinced to view the area as "dumpy." If people keep an eye out to see who it is that is dumping/throwing trash inthe park...and it turns out to be a few of the Sound School kids...we could then speak to the principal to ask that they keep a closer eye o ntheir students.
